Of all the many great tastes of Christmas, gingerbread has to be up there whether you are baking gingerbread trees or enjoying a seasonal latte.

And now Lidl is truly getting into the festive spirit with a gingerbread gin liqueur, brimming with all the warmth and spice one would expect from a freshly baked Christmas cookie.

This gin is part of their well-received Hortus range of gins, and costs a Secret Santa friendly price of £9.99 for a 50cl bottle. Being a gin liqueur, you won’t get quite as tiddly with a lower alcohol by volume (ABV) rating of 20 per cent.

Comforting flavours of ginger and cinnamon combine in a swirling snow globe of yumminess, best drank beside a crackling log fire. You will feel like a delicious and spangly Christmas tree is growing inside your belly.

Lidl has suggested enjoying this liqueur in a cocktail, mixing it with espresso and a dollop of single cream, before sprinkling with a light dusting of cocoa powder. Aah.

According to Good Housekeeping, Lidl’s Spirits Expert, Tristan Stephenson said:

Combine the gingerbread liqueur, coffee and cream in a cocktail shaker along with plenty of ice,

Shake together, and then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a dusting of cocoa powder and serve immediately.

This drink comes mere weeks after Lidl introduced their Hortus Plum and Cinnamon Gin Liqueur, which sounds like something straight out of a Christmas carol; bursting with plums, nutmeg, ginger, clove and cinnamon.

Lidl is becoming recognised as a great In July 2018, Lidl was named the best supermarket at the International Spirits Challenge Awards.

According to Good Housekeeping, head of buying for spirits at Lidl UK, Paul McQuade, said:

This is an incredible achievement and a great reward for all the hard work that has gone into delivering these top quality spirits,

The ‘Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range of the Year’ award reflects the growing trust and loyalty that the British public have in the quality of our Spirits.

Lidl saw a huge 41% rise in gin sales over the past year, with more than 400 bottles of Pink Gin liqueurs sold each hour during the month they were launched.

Lidl’s Gingerbread Gin Liqueur will be made available in stores from Thursday November 29 onwards. Due to the inevitable popularity of this beverage, it’s always best to nip down to the shops sharpish to avoid any potential disappointment.

Pornstar Martinis just don’t cut it at this soup and blankets time of the year. ‘Tis the season for cosy cocktails!

Now we just need a little bit of snow and Christmastime is truly here.
