All the things she said, all the things she said, running through my head, running through my head, running through my head! This. Is. Not. Enough. This is not enouuuuuuuuuuugh! Remember that absolute slapper from 2002?
Yeah, before the days of Drake and Taylor Swift, music fans were obsessed with the enigmatic pairing that was t.A.T.u (autocorrect didn’t even try going over that) made up of Russian singers Julia Volkova and Lena Katina.
Their hit, aptly titled ‘All The Things She Said’ topped the charts in 19 countries including the UK, not least because of the raunchy video where Volkova and Katina donned school girl outfits and danced around in the rain implying, ‘Hey, maybe we’re lesbians? Maybe we’re not. You guys decide!’
Us in the UK being all shy and retiring actually attempted the BBC to ban the video from appearing on pre-watershed chart show Top of the Pops. As it happened, it only made the duo and their song that little bit more attractive.
They found extra success with follow-up tracks Not Gonna Get Us and All About Us, and the release of six albums, and a third-place spot in the 2003 Eurovision song contest.
But not much can be said, at least on the Western stage, for Volkova and Katina in the last five years or so, until NOW of course…
Hey, here’s what our favourite Russian gals look like in 2017:
After a short split in 2012, the girls got back together to perform on the The Voice of Romania in December that year.
They also made a controversial appearance at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in Russia at the height of a what western news publications saw as a homophobic climate.
The pair then fell out again, Katina taking to YouTube to express her disgust at homophobic comments made my Volkova on Ukranian game show Lie Detector.
They have since made up and appeared together to coincide with anniversaries and the like.
